BRR's Open Meeting Next Sunday

So, next Sunday, we want to invite interested individuals and group leaders to participate at our Big Red Relief e-board meeting! We hope people will show up and perhaps give us some guidance and advice or volunteer to take on the challenge of organizing an amazing concert. Please come if you'd like to talk about donating to Haiti through BRR, as well!

Cornell Aiding Haiti Campus-Wide Events

Dear fellow Cornellians,

Many of the student organizations and clubs on campus are coming together
to aid the Haiti relief effort, mourn the loss of life, and keep the
Haitian community in our thoughts and prayers in the wake of the terrible
catastrophe. The following is a list of events and initiatives that will
take place over the next few months on campus. We urge you, in any way you
can, to get involved in the effort.

All the best,

The Student Assembly

Friday, February 5th from 10:00am till 5:00pm, a table will be set up on
Ho Plaza, asking for donations. It would be much appreciated if anyone can
encourage people to pass through Ho Plaza and contribute/donate to the
cause. All monetary gains will be donated to Partners in Health. If anyone
is willing to help, there is much to do: baking, tabling, making
signs/pamphlets, and talking to pedestrians about our cause. Please email
Jimmy Lam at jL948@cornell.edu if you would like to volunteer.

Haiti Country Night: Personal accounts of earthquake survivors, Haitian
history, and Haitian food.

Saturday, 02/06/2010 @ Holland International Living Center (Main Lounge)

The Holland International Living Center will be organizing on February 6th
a Haiti Country Night. Through this event members of the Cornell community
would have the opportunity to learn about Haitian history and obtain a
better understanding of the struggles the Haitian people had to overcome
throughout the years: during the event students that survived the
earthquake will be invited to give personal accounts of their experiences.
Through this event the community would also get the opportunity to learn
about the other disasters that have impoverished the country throughout
the years, about Haitian culture and about Haitian food.

Big Red Relief Haiti Benefit Concert
Sunday, 04/11/2010 @ Barton Hall

Big Red Relief hosts Cornell’s largest annual fundraiser by putting on a
huge benefit concert, we started in 2004 and raised over $10,000 for the
victims of the Indian Ocean Tsunami. Although we had already started
planning the concert for another worthy cause, the severity of the
situation in Haiti has compelled us to join in on the campus wide
initiative for Haiti Relief. The concert will be on April 11th in Barton
Hall, we are hoping to trump our previous record and show just how
committed Cornell is to reaching out to those in need. There are numerous
ways to get involved with the planning and production process. Email
bigredrelief@gmail.com with any questions, you can also check out our
facebook page and our newly designed website. Look out for updates about
student and outside performers and make sure to save the date!

Update from our Co-President

Welcome Back!

We hope you are having a successful first week of classes! We wanted you
to be the first to know about a significant change in the Big Red Relief
game plan this year. By now you’ve all heard about the tragedy in Haiti so
we don’t have to reiterate just how dire the situation is, however we do
want to emphasize the importance of our campus coming together under this
worthy cause. That is why Big Red Relief is joining the campus wide
initiative for Haiti Relief, we were founded as an organization that
responds effectively to crises like the one in Haiti and we plan to do
just that.

We are not, however, turning our backs on Invisible Children. We will
still be raising as much awareness for their noble cause as possible, even
though the proceeds from the concert will go to Haiti Relief Efforts.

The concert isn’t until April, but there will be other campus events
supporting Haiti in the coming months. We urge you to support as many of
these efforts as possible.

We still want you to keep BRR in mind though, by April the news frenzy
might have died down but the need for aid is long lasting and we can’t
allow ourselves to turn our backs. We hope to make this year’s concert the
biggest yet and we can’t do it without your help.

So yes, just a quick update from Big Red Relief! All the best with the
rest of your week!

Warm Regards,

OreOluwa Badaki
Co-President, Big Red Relief

Haiti!

Another meeting today to get our tasks on track for Haiti

Blogspot!

I'm going to start using the remote Blogspot blogging site to update Big Red Relief! It's easier for everyone, so that means faster updates!

Changing Gears to Respond to Haiti

Today, we had a quick meeting and it was unanimously decided that we need to take action and help Haiti. This is what Big Red Relief is about: we respond to largescale emergencies. Big Red Relief is not going to forget about Invisible Children, though. We know that they have just won a large sum of money to continue with their projects to raise awareness, so we will continue to help spread awareness about Invisible Children.

Soon, we'll be looking for performances! If your group is interested. Please get in touch with any of us on the e-board. (Our contact details are listed here!) We are still looking for funding. If your club can help us out, please don't hesitate to email us! Once again, we are a non-profit group so all funds will go towards our cause this year!

Behind the Scenes from November

Today, we had a huuuge 2 hour long meeting. We covered all the nitty gritty, from calling caterers to thinking of uniforms, from small committees to the methodology behind emailing members! I am so tired, so hungry, but this is going to be worth it!

The general body meeting is happening this Monday after a talk by Josh Tetrick. Josh Tetrick is a social ennntreeepeneeurr (spelling gah!!) and a Cornell alumn who graduated in 2004. He's going to talk about how YOU can make change. Honestly, this year's cause, Invisible Children is ALL about empowering youth. So stop Facebooking and get down to Willard Straight Hall's Memorial Room tomorrow at 5:30.

KNOW THAT THIS IS GOING TO BE A HUGE CONCERT! GET INVOLVED!
